Sea World

Tyaan and I went to Sea World for 2 days last week. She had the week off of school for spring break and had never been there before.

It was a lot of fun, and we had pretty good weather. It was sunny during the day, we both got some sun, and cooled down in the evenings.

Here are some shots Ty got of the sights.


The Polar Bears were her favorite. She named them Fluffy.

We took a backstage tour and got to see dolphins in the back area. They started popping up to look the tour group over right away. We also got to pet sharks! (Just little ones!)


And of course we got to see SHAMU!

Beach trip

Tyaan and I finally made it to the beach this year. Unfortunately it was a quick trip when I got out of work early and it wasn't as warm as it had been over the weekend, but it was warm enough to get some sun and we were all tired by the time we left for home.

Mormon Battalion Memorial

I accompanied the youth to the Mormon Battalion visitors center in San Diego last weekend. I had never been there and knowing I had ancestors that were involved I had always been interested in seeing it. There's not much there, a short video that tells of the journey and some of the individuals and a few things to look at. We did find the Hatch brothers on the list of members displayed.

Here is another cute clip of Andrew I couldn't resist posting. This is him on Oct 29, 2000. He was 5 years old and must have started kindergarten that fall. Here he is showing of his Pledge of Allegiance.

Andrew at 2 1/2

I've been going through old movies for the last several months and importing them onto my computer so I can eventually put everything on DVD. I just put this in today and was cracking up. I had to share it. This is at my cousin Jason's missionary farewell open house in November of 1997 (I don't know the exact day, but if anybody does I would appreciate the info.)

This is Andrew at 2 1/2 years old in my aunt Rolayne's backyard. He was trying to catch a cat earlier and I believe Jon finally got a hold of one and let him hold it. After this one gets away Andrew decides it's funner to scare them. It's adorable, enjoy!

Swim Invitational

Tyaan had a swim invitational at Ontario High School last Saturday. There were several schools there and it was quite an event. They were running 2 pools, JV in one and Varsity in the other. We were there from 8:30 am (It started at 9am) until about 2pm. She was supposed to swim in the 1st event and the last event so we were there pretty much the entire time. It was supposed to be a really cold day, but it didn't turn out so bad. It was cool but sunny. When the sun was shining we were okay, but when the clouds covered it it got a bit chilly. The wind was picking up when we left so I think we got out just in time. She only swam 3 of her 4 events because 2 of the girls in her 4x50 medley didn't make it to the pool on time so they missed the first event. Here is video from 2 of her 3 events she swam.

She swam the 200 freestyle. I get a time of 2:32 from the video, but the officials clocked her at 2:35 which isn't as good as she was hoping for. Keep in mind this was her 3rd meet of the week, so everyone was pretty burned out. I almost didn't post this video since it's a couple minutes long and I've put it up before, but this is a pretty good angle to view it from. You can see her flip turns really well which she has been working on.




Her 2nd event was the 100fly. Her time was 1:17, so she tied with her best time. She finished 11th out of 25 varsity girls. I was really impressed considering how worn out she was. I'm looking forward to seeing what she's capable of when league starts in a few weeks.




She also swam the 4x100 freestyle relay and did FANTASTIC! Her split was 1:09 which was the fastest of all 4 girls. This was the A team. On our way out her coach told her she did great and said she's going to have to swim it from now on. That makes me happy since I get to see her swim more!

I had to snap a picture of my dad and Andrew as they were leaving church today.  They both looked so nice in their dress clothes.

Swim meet

Tyaan had another great meet last week. She swam the 200 free, 100 fly, and the 4x100 freestyle relay. She won both of her races and went out first on her relay team and finished her 100y at the same time as their school's other team. Here is the video of her 100 fly.

Roller Skating!

Tyaan and I attended a birthday party on Saturday at a roller rink.  After some cajoling I finally put on some skates.  I haven't been on roller skates in many years and thought for sure I wouldn't make it home without a concussion. Well, with some steadying by Ty and some friends I made it through the first few minutes and actually felt pretty comfortable by the end of the party.  It was a lot of fun and we're planning on going back soon.

Powder Puff Game

I'm finally getting around to posting about powder puff. It took me a little while to go through all of the video and pull out the 'highlights'. Tyaan is number 83 and played on the defensive line. She looks awfully small and outnumbered but is able to hold her own. It goes quick and is hard to see what's happening sometimes so I've outlined what went on in each clip below.

One thing I was sure to leave in was the announcers butchering of our last name. It was so funny! We were sitting just in front of the booth so we could help him out a couple times. He gets it right once...

Clip 1 - Tyaan gets the tackle (pulls the flag)
Clip 2 - She gets tossed to the ground and isn't too happy about it!
Clip 3 - She holds the offensive line, what a tough girl!
Clip 4 - Gets through and pushes the QB which causes the pass to be off and an INTERCEPTION!!
Clip 5 - Gets the tackle...Listen for, "Tackle by #83 Tyaan...Hatauso" (?!)
Clip 6 - Gets through the line
Clip 7 - Hangs on the girls flag which suspiciously won't come off. (Cheating a bit you think?) She actually had drag marks and cuts on her knee from this play.
Clip 8 - Gets the tackle, announcer gets last name correct with Jon's help
Clip 9 - Gets through the line, gets yanked back (ILLEGAL!) and knocked off her feet which makes her miss the sack, notice the runner get through mobs of juniors without losing a flag (cheaters...) Tyaan comes around and tackles the girl. She got knocked in the head pretty bad, you can see her holding it when she comes up.

Anyway, Ty played fantastic but after this last clip the seniors scored with only a few minutes left in the game. Seniors won 7-0.

Also, I spared you the boy cheerleaders. You're welcome.

A great fly picture!

A friend of ours got this fantastic picture of Ty swimming the butterfly at one of her meets last week. Isn't it beautiful?!
